Susan M. Hicks Award for Graduate Research on Eurasia

Applications are being accepted for the Susan M. Hicks Award for Graduate Research on Eurasia.

All UBC Faculty of Arts graduate students planning to conduct research related to Eurasia, broadly defined as the regions of the former Soviet Union and neighbouring countries shaped by the history of state socialism, are eligible to apply for the award (normally $750-$1500). Applications for direct research expenses, especially field research, are preferred.

Applications should include a CV and a one to two page statement (no more) that outlines the project for which funding is sought. The statement should clearly indicate:

1) how the proposed project relates to the larger program of graduate study

2) what the award would specifically support, e.g. airfare, supplies, etc.

The CV should include contact information for the applicant and contact information for the applicant’s graduate supervisor.

Applications, as well as any inquiries, should be sent to Dr. Alexia Bloch at abloch@mail.ubc.ca

The deadline for submission is April 15, 2026.
