About
Join us for a special screening of Intercepted (2024), the award-winning documentary by Ukrainian-Canadian filmmaker Oksana Karpovych, on Monday, September 29, 2025 at 7:00 PM at the Normand Bouchard Memorial Theatre, 6138 Student Union Blvd #130, Vancouver, BC V6T 1Z1.
Through a striking juxtaposition of everyday life in Ukraine with intercepted phone calls made by Russian soldiers to their families, Intercepted reveals the full spectrum of war’s dehumanizing power—from illusions of heroism to despair, propaganda, and disillusionment. The film offers a rare glimpse into both the brutality of aggression and the resilience of people rebuilding amid devastation.
Following the screening, there will be a Q&A with director Oksana Karpovych, who will share insights into the making of the film and the urgent questions it raises about humanity and war.
This event is free and open to the public.
Presented by the Centre for Cinema Studies and Human Rights Collective, in partnership with the Centre for European Studies, Cinema Thinks the World, Film Soc, and Ukrainian Student Union at UBC and Maple Hope Foundation.
