Kazakhstan faces the dual challenge of dependence on fossil fuels and growing pressure to address climate change. In this guest lecture, Dr. Renata Faizova will discuss the evolution of Kazakhstan’s climate policies, assess the role of key domestic emitters, and analyze how foreign investors in the energy and mining sectors are shaping the country’s energy transition. The lecture will also provide a comparative perspective on how companies from China, Canada, the US, and the EU enhance climate-driven commitments in Kazakhstan.


Bio

Renata Faizova, a scholar of international relations specializing in Central Asia and Eurasian energy politics, for a guest lecture on Climate Governance in Kazakhstan.
Dr. Faizova, originally from Eastern Kazakhstan, earned her PhD in international relations with a focus on Kazakhstan’s foreign policy. She has been a faculty member at M. Narikbayev University in Astana since 2010, where she has led internationalization initiatives and conducted research on foreign policy and energy governance. She has also served as a visiting scholar at Istanbul University (2019–2020) and is currently a visiting scholar at the Centre for European Studies, University of British Columbia, where her research focuses on energy transition and climate governance.
