Bio:

Elodie is a third year student in the UBC – Sciences Po dual degree program. Having majored in political humanities in France at Sciences Po, she is now pursuing her second undergraduate degree in Sociology with a Minor in Philosophy. Elodie aims to pursue a career in research following her undergraduate degree. In addition to being a CES fellow, She is currently a research assistant on a community engaged research-project, a collaboration between the Office of Regional and International Community Engagement and AFRIpads, a menstrual products company based in Uganda. Elodie’s research interests were greatly motivated by her experiences working with LGBTIQ+ organizations in Slovenia and Greece as an EU sponsored volunteer. She aims to develop research focusing on gender and sexuality, inequalities, and human rights discourses.

Project Description:

Elodie’s research explores how LGBTIQ+ youth in the Balkans navigate the multiple layers of meaning associated with ‘Europeanness’ given the tumultuous relationship between gender, sexuality, and citizenship. The project will look at the tensions that emerge between the often gendered concept of the nation, sexual and gender identities, and the European Union’s human rights discourse. This research aims to shed light on whether a shared “European identity,” is being successfully fostered among young people, in line with the EU’s objective in recent years.
